Why study Gender, Sexuality and Diversity?

Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies (GSDS) explores identity and its relationship to gender, sexuality, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability and age. It looks at difference and diversity and how the mainstream maintains power over the marginal.

A GSDS major interrogates how our rights, responsibilities and roles in society are gendered and sexualized, and how they influence our relationships and our quality of work, life and play.

You'll be exposed to a rich history and counter narrative of difference and diversity.

Choose from specializations including feminist history, gender and work, sexuality and queer theory, women's writing and feminist literary criticism, women and popular culture, gender and education, feminist socio-legal history, women and religion, queer culture in Chinese society, women's health, transgender writing, identity politics, gender and media, and feminist criminology.

Where can Gender, Sexuality and Diversity take me?

GSDS prepares you for a career in a range of fields including human rights, equal opportunity, social and policy planning, human resource management, teaching and education, media and communications, public relations, journalism, politics, community service and community development.
